Big Data for the great Florence – a new tool for the management of flows

Today, the management of great tourist flows is a challenge for every city of art. The main capitals of tourism are putting in place innovative tools, not only to offer an adequate welcome to visitors, making them even more aware – and therefore respectful – of the territory in which they are staying for short periods, but also to present them with alternative experiences, promoting itineraries that are able to guide the flows in a better way, by distributing them in multiple places throughout the territory.

In this way, lesser-known places of the city and the metropolitan area are also promoted at the same time. In particular, through the use of big data, as well as having important analyses of tourist demand, it is possible to present real time distribution flows and activate a system of notifications for more effective delocalisation of tourist presences.

Therefore, the Municipality of Florence’s new tourism APP, FEEL FLORENCE, as well as presenting itself as a unique tool for receiving and offering information to tourists and citizens, puts these tools together in order to enhance the value of the entire metropolitan territory and the promotion of a more sustainable way to visit Florence.
